Helen Madell, Clinical Psychologist
As a practising psychologist of seventeen years in the Capricornia region, Helen has an understanding of the difficulties facing individuals, couples. Her experience as a psychologist is wide and diverse. She is highly trained and experienced in PTSD in first responders as well as survivors of childhood abuse, couples therapy, cognitive behavioural techniques as well as interpersonal therapy, relaxation techniques, schema therapy, and mindfulness.
Helen’s professional experience in health extends beyond her time as a practicing psychologist. Prior to her career as a psychologist, she worked in the nursing profession and the Royal Australian Army as a solider/medic.
From her careers in the health profession she has been awarded a commendation from the chief of defence for her work overseas in 1998 and has been fortunate enough to work with some diverse organisations such as the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, the Queensland Ambulance Service and the Royal Australian Army.
Currently, she works in private practice and lectures in the Masters of Clinical Psychology Program at CQ University as Unit Co-ordinator of two subjects: Psychopathology I and Therapy II. Her clientele over the years has ranged from couples and individuals seeking assistance with issues such a domestic violence, depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, trauma (including PTSD), stress, grief/bereavement, eating disorders (including obesity) phobias and obsessive compulsiveness tendencies.
External to her working life, she enjoys her time between a variety of hobbies. She shares her time as a mother of two girls, an assistant instructor at a Taekwondo Dojang and an avid fitness fan.
